Volunteers & Interns
Volunteers
We have a small but mighty roster of volunteers with a diverse range of talents, skills, and experiences. Our volunteers assist in a variety of ways to build our organization and advance our mission to end gender violence and improve legal outcomes for survivors. Our team of volunteers includes attorneys, researchers, justice impacted family members, fundraisers, administrators, counselors, teachers, photographers, social media mavens, and artists.
Interesting in volunteering with us? We’re happy to discuss ways you can get involved depending on your interests, skills, and availability.
Internship Program
We post openings for our internship program here and on our social media. Our internship program is open to law students, graduate students in the social sciences, and advanced undergraduates. We seek candidates with strong research, writing, communication, and organizational skills. All internships are unpaid. Philly Justice Project is a hybrid workplace. Interns are expected to attend in person meetings, court hearings, as well as travel to prison and jail facilities.
Duties may include research and writing for publication, developing online content, supporting community outreach and education efforts, assisting with advocacy campaigns, providing assistance on applications for commutation and parole, participating in fundraising efforts, and performing administrative duties (e.g., maintaining and updating client files, responding to general inquiries, developing mailing lists, etc.).
Undergraduate Chapter
From 2020 – 2025 we hosted an undergraduate chapter of Philly Justice Project at Villanova University (“Nova PJP”). Students received training in research-informed advocacy, law and legal systems, gender violence, sentencing and the carceral system, and strategic communications. Alums from our chapter have been placed in some of the best law schools and Ph.D. programs in the country, including Harvard, Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, and New York University. In 2022 our undergraduate chapter received the Student Organization Advocacy Award from Villanova University.
Want to bring us to your campus? We are available for talks, events, workshops, and training sessions. We are also happy to discuss launching a local chapter! Get in touch at info@phillyjusticeproject.org.
